Product Overview

The Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch® 9900 Series core switch is a high-capacity, high-performance modular CLOS (Orthogonal Matrix) Ethernet switch.

The OmniSwitch® 9900 Series is widely used in enterprise, service provider, and data center environments. Because the OmniSwitch 9900 Series runs on Alcatel-Lucent Operating System (AOS), a state-of-the-art programmable operating system specifically designed for Software-Defined Networking (SDN) environments, it enables uninterrupted network operation through continuous Layer 2 and Layer 3 forwarding.

The OmniSwitch 9900 is a high-density, multi-terabit (Tbit) modular platform. This platform can linearly scale switching capacity through virtual machine chassis technology, providing tens of terabits of total switching capacity. Its modular design offers investment protection, allowing for future in-line upgrades and providing high-density 1G/2.5G/5G/10G/25G/40G/50G/100G interfaces.

The OmniSwitch 9900 series is suitable for core, aggregation, and access layer environments in enterprise networks. Its flexible platform architecture, with its independent control and data planes, provides unparalleled scalability to meet the network scalability and throughput requirements of enterprises of different sizes as they grow. The OmniSwitch 9900 series offers a variety of network interface modules, providing gigabit, 2.5G, 40G, and 100G service ports in an 11U height chassis, and offers the highest gigabit/10-gigabit port density in its class.

The OmniSwitch 9900 offers the highest Power over Ethernet (PoE) port density in its class, with built-in PoE power expandable up to 10800 W. Gigabit PoE line cards support 8 HPoE (75 W) ports and 40 802.3at PoE (30 W) ports. All PoE-enabled ports comply with IEEE 802.3af/at standards.

The OmniSwitch 9900 significantly reduces power consumption through its energy-efficient mode, making it a highly efficient and versatile switch.

The OmniSwitch 9900 series core switches also utilize Alcatel-Lucent's Intelligent Fabric technology. This technology enables true network flexibility, ensuring excellent business agility. It not only delivers a resilient, high-capacity architecture but also provides automated deployment and self-healing network capabilities, reducing IT operating costs. This technology platform is based on standard IEEE protocols and key innovations, such as Shortest Path Bridging (802.1aq/SPB-M) for bridging and routing services, Multi-VLAN Registration Protocol (MVRP), Virtual Network Profile (vNP), 802.3ad/802.1AX (ACP), and Auto-Fabric technology for automatic protocol and topology discovery.
